What is a breccia marble?

Breccia is an Italian word for breach or broken pieces. When marble is formed deep in the earth it will sometimes be exposed to earthquakes, which will break the marble into many pieces. Over thousands of years the marble will glue itself back together but will still have a broken appearance. There are many types of breccia and it can be identified by this broken appearance.

TIP Do not confuse breccia with agglomerate marbles. Breccia is a true marble whereas agglomerates are a combination of marble and plastic resins.
