How to Remove Color-Enhancing Sealer on Marble Floor

Q. I have a polished White Carrera marble floor. A solvent-based enhancing sealer was applied about a week and a half ago. It seeped through the outer edges and darkened the stone. Someone recommended a poultice. I want to try it. Please tell me what ingredients to use in the poultice.

A. You can have the sealer removed, but it is probably not a do-it-yourself job. It will likely be difficult and expensive to remove, because your professional stone restoration contractor will need to first strip the seal and then hone and polish your floor. If portions of the sealer remain, the contractor will then need to use a series of poultices to draw out the enhancing material. It is possible that your professional restoration contractor can leave you with supplies and instructions on poulticing to eliminate some of the labor cost. The poultice may need to be reapplied ten times or more.
