Does high speed burnishing of marble flooring cause any damage?

I am assuming that you are talking about burnishing a floor in speeds of 1500 rpm and higher. This is a typical maintenance procedure for certain types of floor finishes and is also used on stone flooring. I have not seen any articles or research on this subject but I have personally observed marble flooring that I feel is being damaged by high speed burnishing. The basis for my argument is that burnishing is designed to produce heat and heat will damage marble. The abrasive pads used on burnishers can also cause damage. My recommendation would be too avoid burnishing stone flooring.
