A. Essentially an etch is damage to the stone. If it isn't too severe (it's not so rough you can feel it with your fingertips) you should be able to fix it easily yourself using a marble polishing compound or powder. If it is very severe, you may have to call in a professional. I would recommend that you first try the marble polishing powder or compound, since it isn't very expensive and it does work very well.
