Marble Slab

Q. Hello, I have a 2'x3' piece of white marble and some black marbling in it along with what looks like shiny glistening stuff in it. It is not shiny for it's in its natural state. It has been out in the weather for a long time. It does have a couple of pits in it (tiny pin holes) not enough to be concerned. I'd like to use it as a cutting board and food prep area. What do I need to do to it for this or is it okay to use it the way it is?. I know nothing about marble so I am open to any suggestions you may have. It is a beautiful piece of marble and extremely heavy. I would so appreciate your expertise on this matter. Thank you, Maxine

A. Using it as cutting board will be ok but remember it is soft and will scratch and it will dull even more with acidic foods. If you don't mind this it should work fine. Many people love the patina marble will get with the kind of use you will be giving it.

I would first clean it with a heavy duty stone cleaner and keep it clean after each use.
